A Pair Of Mustachios Story By Dr.Mulk Raj Anand

                                                              SUMMARY

         Mustaches are very common in India.I Europe,clothes make the man.But in India,mustaches make the man.Mustaches are of many types and show the social status of a person.Seth Ramanand was a money-lender and shopkeeper of the village. He earned a lot of money by selling wheat at a high cost.The people of his status kept goat mustache.but the Seth twisted his mustaches to look like tiger mustaches.The peasants of the village owed money from him.So,they did not mind the tiger mustaches.

                                                                                                                                                                           Khan Azam Khan also lived in the same village.He always wore a tiger mustache.One day Khan Azam Khan came to the shop of the money-lender to pawn the gold nose-ring of his wife.He saw that the shopkeeper also had a tiger mustache.He abused the shopkeeper in a fit of anger.Khan asked him to lower the tip of his mustache.He did so and asked him to show him the nose ring.The pride of the was satisfied.He was in great need of money so he accepted the price of the nose ring offered by the shokeeper.Khan saw that one end of his mustaches was still up.Khan told him that he had deceived him. They money lender told the Khan that when he come again to pawn something with him,he would lower the other end also.

         Khan azam Khan controlled his anger and walked away.He went home.He brought him ancestral necklace.He told the shopkeeper to lower the tips of his mustaches. Khan told him that he could not tolerate his tiger mustaches.the shopkeeper told Azam Khan that if he sold all his goods to him,he would lower the end of him mustaches.Khan Azam said that he could not trust his words.the landlord said that if the shopkeeper did not keep goat mustaches they would stand withness against him in the court.A deed was written by the petition writer of the village and signed by five elders of the village.the money lender bought all the goods of Khan Azam khan.The money lender lowered the tips of his mustaches.But when Khan Azam Khan had left,the shopkeeper twisted his mustaches up.
